Beauty Inspiration: Here’s why Celebrity MUA BeatFaceHoney would slay ratings on OWN *VIDEO Pilot*

For starters, I was inspired to write this post because I am continuously inspired by this woman.

For those of you that are not familiar with this gorgeous face, allow me to introduce you to celebrity makeup artist and educator…THE ONE AND ONLY…Tatiana Ward, better known as BeatFaceHoney! Take a look below:

Notice my excitement…!!!!

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you know that I love all things beauty and fashion… and of Divine Spirit of course!

At one point, I even had a section on this blog titled Beauty Inspiration.

Well, let’s just say that I’m bringing this title out of retirement to give a major shout out to this amazingly talented and driven woman.

I first learned about BeatFaceHoney around 2011. At the time, I had just started this blog, and I was constantly searching for content that inspired me. I must have gone to YouTube to find inspiration of some sort, when I stumbled upon the channel of BeatFaceHoney.

Let’s just say that I’ve been hooked ever since.

What I remember most about discovering her videos, was that she was a girl who had a love for beauty and teaching, just like me, and all she wanted to do was share what she knew with whoever could benefit from it.

Even then, while sitting at her bedside in her parents’ basement with a ton of makeup at hand, an occasional curling iron, and whatever recording device she used to capture it all, she was an awesome educator. She was well spoken and graceful, passionate, fun to watch, super talented, and completely transparent with anything that viewers would want to know about her craft. BFH was and is the REAL DEAL!

I mean… She taught me how to put on eyeshadow, apply my foundation flawlessly, and fill in my brows for goodness sake!

And if anyone wanted to become a makeup artist, through her timeless videos, she teaches viewers how to get started and what to expect, recommends products, and shows how to mix and match foundation tones for brown girls. She even shares parts of her personal journey. It’s the kind of education that people pay lots of money for these days. And she did it out of a pure desire to share, long before it became the “it” thing to do on YouTube.

I write so passionately about her (and no, I’ve never met her… nor does she know anything about this) because she’s been so inspiring to me from day one. She has helped so many of her fans get on the path to living their dreams, all because she was bold enough to pursue a path uncharted, and create a lane of her own.

As a follower, what captured me most, was the power of what she’s nicknamed her BeatFaceBrigade (her following). I was not only a witness to her rise to fame, but I also participated in sending out a series of tweets, along with fellow BFBs that got the attention of Nicki Minaj when she posted that she was looking for a makeup artist in New York.

We were all over it, tweeting that Nicki should choose BeatFaceHoney for the job. It was that collective action that helped her go from in front of the camera on YouTube, to doing makeup for Nicki Minaj and Brandy, followed by many others… all with a few collective tweets from thousands of followers.

It felt so good to see her win, and I’d love to see her go even further.

Why OWN TV?

I tagged Oprah Winfrey Network in the title of this post because I am a huge fan of the network. In fact, I was an early adopter that was often retweeted by the network on Twitter in its early days because I wanted the world to know about shows like Life Class and Master Class (I even wrote about my Twitter experience. Check it out here.).

They were, and still are, life changing television programs.

I grew up the daughter of a hairstylist, and in my mother’s hair salon, the only time she allowed the television on during the day was to watch The Oprah Winfrey Show. My mother was not about promoting anything but positivity, hence the reason why I am the way I am.

Recently, BeatFaceHoney shared in an Instagram post that she recorded a pilot for a show that she dreams of having on OWN.

After watching it and reflecting on the impact that she’s already had on my life, I was deeply moved to find a way to be another voice to echo this vision of hers.

BeatFaceHoney represents ambition and hard work, positivity and passion, tenacity and perseverance, and so much more. She would be an amazing asset to draw in an audience that is obsessed with beauty; only, she has much more to offer than vanity.

Did I mention that she’s also a recording artist? Yes, I said it. She’s a singer who once auditioned on American Idol. And she happened to write every makeup artist’s slay anthem, Slay To The Gawds.

While she’s at it, she could probably be a motivational speaker as well.

I would absolutely LOVE to watch a reality show for and by girls like me, who are not here for the drama. And I would LOVE to watch it on my favorite network! With more than 10 million views on YouTube and over 400K followers on Instagram, I know that I’m not the only one who’d tune in to watch her show.

If you are a reading this as a fan and follower of BeatFaceHoney, I want you to share this post on social media. That means retweet, repost, and share so that we can get our girl on TV, and on just the right network!

If this is all new to you, get to know BeatfaceHoney on YouTube, and feel free to scroll back as far as 6 years ago (The woman has BEEN WERKIN’!). I promise you’ll see what I mean. Then come back here and share, share, SHARE.

Here’s the pilot for the show that she and her team (and me!) hope will one day have a home at OWN:

My fingers are crossed, and I know that she’s leaving it up to God and the Universe.  We’ve seen it happen on her behalf before through the power of social media. Let’s see what we can collectively help manifest this time around.

Love,

Brittnay’s Corner: When He’s Just Not Ready (The Best Relationship Advice EVER!)

Alright ladies, listen up because I’m about to give you the game like it was given to me! This one’s by popular demand…

When your man says, “I’m not really ready for a relationship, or a committment; or to have babies, or to move in with you right now,” BELIEVE HIM THE FIRST TIME!!!

And for some of you, his words may say one thing, but if his actions show the opposite, BELIEVE HIS ACTIONS THE FIRST TIME!

It’s not that he’s  a bad person, or that he’s necessarily being selfish or unfair. In fact, if he has already said this to you, or shown you this with his actions (by becoming distant, cheating, procrastinating, etc…), you should literally THANK HIM for providing you with such priceless information (You know, kinda like what Beyonce said in “Best Thing I Never Had”…

Thank God you blew it

and thank God I dodged a bullet…

Baby good looking out)

I almost always cringe when I hear women or young girls make statements like, ” he’s said he’s not ready, but we’re going work on that”… or “he’s stubborn, but we’ll fix that”… or “he’s not REALLY selfish (even though he confessed this casually), he’s just saying that.” Girl, in the wise words of the great Maya Angelou,

“My Dear, why must it take you 29 times?? When people tell/show you who they are, believe them the first time.”

You too can dodge a bullet with that kind of  information once YOU decide whether you will spend your days trying so hard to convince HIM that HE IS WRONG about WHO HE IS and where HE IS along HIS OWN JOURNEY.[PAUSE] Wait, what?  How foolish does that sound?! Yet, unfortunately many women fall into this category. Yes, WOMEN TEND TO CREATE HELL for themselves when they try to convince men that they know men better than men know themselves. NO-YOU-DON’T! Ladies, you only to set yourselves up for hurt and pain when that person acts out of what they’ve ALREADY told or SHOWED you THE FIRST time. And as the saying goes:

Fool me once, shame on you (but not really because you already showed or told me, but I told myself that I could fix it)

Fool me twice, shame on ME! (Indeed!)

He’s being who he is for the time being (that is, until life causes him to make different decisions, NOT YOU). And perhaps he is showing you that his journey is pulling him in another direction, but you choose not to believe him. Oh but wait, it gets better! Then, we ultimately blame our choices on LOVE. Honey, that’s NOT love! That is what you call delusional LUST (as you mature and experience REAL love– like the unconditional love that you have for your mom, dad, sister, brother– you’ll see). Love is patient, love is kind, its unconditional and  it does not demand that someone be anything other than the perfectly imperfect being that GOD himself created (read Corinthians 1:13 KJV to get the scoop on LOVE) . Therefore, there should be nothing for you to even want to fix if you’re with someone who wants what you want out of life. The better choice would be to choose someone who wants what you want out of a relationship and life. As Dr. Patricia Allen puts it, its much harder to get rid of the wrong one than it is to attract the right one. And everyone deserves someone who will not try to change them or change their mind, but accept them as as good enough right where they stand. #POW

By nature, predominantly masculine people are hunters. And just as divine wisdom has pointed out, “When a MAN FINDS a wife, HE finds a good thing.” Never once did it say that she must convince him that she is worthy, nor did it say that she must guilt him into being ready to make her his wife, or baby’s momma, or roommate, or business partner, etc… When it comes to matters of this nature, patience and being decisive about what you will and will not tolerate will be your best friends. And no amount of sex, or buying him Jordan’s, and or playing house, or playing his momma will convince him otherwise (remember, it was NEVER your job to convince him to begin with. He always finds his “good thing” ON HIS OWN DAMN TIME). And another thing, no man likes feeling pressured into anything, especially not by his woman. Your relationship will evolve into unnecessary drama, and you will for sure push your masculine energy companion away from you, and  into relations with those or someone who do understand if you don’t get this point that I’m making.

But when you take his words or actions as his current truth, you can choose to make everyone’s life a lot easier, and especially DRAMA FREE! In thriving relationships, decisions should be made by communicating and coming to agreement, not by guilt, deceit, or force. If what you want is worth having, then you will be patient enough to wait for it and not force it. But he has to feel like it’s a choice that he made for himself, or he will grow to resent you and possibly everything surrounding whatever decision you are trying to convince him of (that goes for marriage, babies, apartment leases, business deals, and YOU.) And that could get U-G-L-Y! Trust me. And if you don’t believe me, just ask your daddy. Lol

When your masculine energy companion is ready, his actions or words (or both) will go something like Levert’s “Baby I’m Ready” song. Check out a few of the lyrics and the song below. (When he plays this song for you, you’ll KNOW its REAL)

Baby I’m ready, to give you all of my love, (All of my love)
Girl I’m tired of playin’ games,
so many girls I can’t even name.
Baby I’m ready(Baby I’m ready), to give you all of my love,
Baby not just a little bit,
I wanna give you all of it.

For more about this whole “masculine energy” thing, check out the extra info within this post below.

In her bestselling psychology-based relationship guide “Getting to I Do”, Dr. Patricia Allen discusses the idea of yin and yang, or masculine and feminine energies. She explains that both energies are something that every human being possesses, however, we all tend to express one more dominantly than the other. She also says that in every human interaction/relationship, only opposites can co-exist if there is to be harmonious balance. In addition, she breaks down the traits of each energy to two basic opposites:

Feminine Energy: is the primary “feeler” in the relationship. They are more concerned with being cherished, having his/her feelings acknowledged and receiving affection.  When feelings and attention are given, a feminine energy person feels respected. A feminine energy person cannot stay with a mate he or she does not respect.

Masculine Energy:  tend to be the director or “thinker” in the relationship.  If asked the question: “Would you rather be respected or adored and cherished?’ a masculine energy person will prefer to be respected. What a masculine energy person THINKS is far more important to them than how he/she feels. A masculine energy person cannot stay with a mate that does not respect his/her thoughts.

If you want your relationships to have an opportunity to thrive, read the book and understand the role that you predominantly play in your relationship, and how you can best interact with your energy’s opposite.

Today, while doing research on the history of African-American hair care enterprises, I came across some amazing videos that were posted to Madame Noire, a blog that I subscribe to on Facebook, and frequent occasionally.

The videos, which are part of an interview series titled “She’s The Boss” that the creators of the blog started to showcase the stories and accomplishments African-American businesswomen and entrepreneurs, are phenomenal! So much so, that I had to share them with my readers… or those of you that are left. Lol  (I’m so sorry y’all!!)

Please check out each one of them if you can, yes, even if you are not African-American. What I learned from Tupac: Your life becomes WHAT YOU BELIEVE

On the anniversary of his death, I came across a YouTube video interview of the late and great poet/hip-hop icon, Tupac Shakur a.k.a. 2Pac, during his time in prison. Growing up with all brothers, I was a fan of hip-hop at an early age. Tupac happened to be my favorite rapper around the time of his death, because at the time, I felt a strong connection to many of his songs, especially growing up in a single parent home. Though there were several things that were published about his life and his intentions with the lyrics in his music, this interview revealed his vulnerability and evolving nature as a human being.

I found this interview to be quite intriguing as he spoke about his strong and long-held thoughts of being incarcerated and murdered, much of which he shared with the world through his music and poetry. Tupac was extremely talented, intelligent and conscious minded, and mostly painted pictures of hope through his platform. But even he would not live long enough to shake the dominant negative thoughts that would ultimately become his destiny.

I will die Before my Time

Because I feel the shadow’s Depth

So much I wanted 2 accomplish

Before I reached my Death

-Tupac Shakur in The Rose That Grew From Concrete

I was moved by this interview because I believe that his story is the story of many a people… People who have yet to become aware of their God-given ability to change their lives, by merely changing their minds. Tupac was beginning his transition  while in prison, but unfortunately he wouldn’t live past the age of 26 (he was murdered two years after this interview) to tell his story of how things have changed as a result of his shift in consciousness, because as far as death, he believed that it was the only thing that would stop him… and it had become the ‘thing’ that he was mostly anticipated and feared.

What I learned from Tupac, among many things, is that life ultimately becomes what you believe. Guard your minds and choose your thoughts wisely, for it is the only true thing that we can control in life.

Check out the interview below:

R.I.P. Tupac.
