Beauty Inspiration: Here’s why Celebrity MUA BeatFaceHoney would slay ratings on OWN *VIDEO Pilot*

For starters, I was inspired to write this post because I am continuously inspired by this woman.

For those of you that are not familiar with this gorgeous face, allow me to introduce you to celebrity makeup artist and educator…THE ONE AND ONLY…Tatiana Ward, better known as BeatFaceHoney! Take a look below:

Notice my excitement…!!!!

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you know that I love all things beauty and fashion… and of Divine Spirit of course!

At one point, I even had a section on this blog titled Beauty Inspiration.

Well, let’s just say that I’m bringing this title out of retirement to give a major shout out to this amazingly talented and driven woman.

I first learned about BeatFaceHoney around 2011. At the time, I had just started this blog, and I was constantly searching for content that inspired me. I must have gone to YouTube to find inspiration of some sort, when I stumbled upon the channel of BeatFaceHoney.

Let’s just say that I’ve been hooked ever since.

What I remember most about discovering her videos, was that she was a girl who had a love for beauty and teaching, just like me, and all she wanted to do was share what she knew with whoever could benefit from it.

Even then, while sitting at her bedside in her parents’ basement with a ton of makeup at hand, an occasional curling iron, and whatever recording device she used to capture it all, she was an awesome educator. She was well spoken and graceful, passionate, fun to watch, super talented, and completely transparent with anything that viewers would want to know about her craft. BFH was and is the REAL DEAL!

I mean… She taught me how to put on eyeshadow, apply my foundation flawlessly, and fill in my brows for goodness sake!

And if anyone wanted to become a makeup artist, through her timeless videos, she teaches viewers how to get started and what to expect, recommends products, and shows how to mix and match foundation tones for brown girls. She even shares parts of her personal journey. It’s the kind of education that people pay lots of money for these days. And she did it out of a pure desire to share, long before it became the “it” thing to do on YouTube.

I write so passionately about her (and no, I’ve never met her… nor does she know anything about this) because she’s been so inspiring to me from day one. She has helped so many of her fans get on the path to living their dreams, all because she was bold enough to pursue a path uncharted, and create a lane of her own.

As a follower, what captured me most, was the power of what she’s nicknamed her BeatFaceBrigade (her following). I was not only a witness to her rise to fame, but I also participated in sending out a series of tweets, along with fellow BFBs that got the attention of Nicki Minaj when she posted that she was looking for a makeup artist in New York.

We were all over it, tweeting that Nicki should choose BeatFaceHoney for the job. It was that collective action that helped her go from in front of the camera on YouTube, to doing makeup for Nicki Minaj and Brandy, followed by many others… all with a few collective tweets from thousands of followers.

It felt so good to see her win, and I’d love to see her go even further.

Why OWN TV?

I tagged Oprah Winfrey Network in the title of this post because I am a huge fan of the network. In fact, I was an early adopter that was often retweeted by the network on Twitter in its early days because I wanted the world to know about shows like Life Class and Master Class (I even wrote about my Twitter experience. Check it out here.).

They were, and still are, life changing television programs.

I grew up the daughter of a hairstylist, and in my mother’s hair salon, the only time she allowed the television on during the day was to watch The Oprah Winfrey Show. My mother was not about promoting anything but positivity, hence the reason why I am the way I am.

Recently, BeatFaceHoney shared in an Instagram post that she recorded a pilot for a show that she dreams of having on OWN.

After watching it and reflecting on the impact that she’s already had on my life, I was deeply moved to find a way to be another voice to echo this vision of hers.

BeatFaceHoney represents ambition and hard work, positivity and passion, tenacity and perseverance, and so much more. She would be an amazing asset to draw in an audience that is obsessed with beauty; only, she has much more to offer than vanity.

Did I mention that she’s also a recording artist? Yes, I said it. She’s a singer who once auditioned on American Idol. And she happened to write every makeup artist’s slay anthem, Slay To The Gawds.

While she’s at it, she could probably be a motivational speaker as well.

I would absolutely LOVE to watch a reality show for and by girls like me, who are not here for the drama. And I would LOVE to watch it on my favorite network! With more than 10 million views on YouTube and over 400K followers on Instagram, I know that I’m not the only one who’d tune in to watch her show.

If you are a reading this as a fan and follower of BeatFaceHoney, I want you to share this post on social media. That means retweet, repost, and share so that we can get our girl on TV, and on just the right network!

If this is all new to you, get to know BeatfaceHoney on YouTube, and feel free to scroll back as far as 6 years ago (The woman has BEEN WERKIN’!). I promise you’ll see what I mean. Then come back here and share, share, SHARE.

Here’s the pilot for the show that she and her team (and me!) hope will one day have a home at OWN:

My fingers are crossed, and I know that she’s leaving it up to God and the Universe.  We’ve seen it happen on her behalf before through the power of social media. Let’s see what we can collectively help manifest this time around.

Love,

11 Self-Help Books That Completely Changed My Life

Ways toincorporatepurple hues inyour wedding.png

Along my journey, I’ve had the privilege of coming across some pretty amazing literature. Some of these books have helped me accomplish many goals, including spiritual, emotional, financial, and relationship goals. Here, I share with you 11 of my favorite books that have had the greatest impact on my growth in many of the areas mentioned. In fact, I credit these books with having changed my life for the better. And I hope that you’ll explore them for yourself.

1. The Secret: I actually saw the documentary that the book was based on when I was a freshman in college. And I must have shared it with every single person I cared about. Sure, it’s been criticized for being a simplified approach to a more complex life principle. However, simplicity was the key for me to first: understand The Law of Attraction, second: recognized that I had practiced it unknowingly throughout my life, and third: to instantly put it to work, but this time with clearer intentions. I must say that because of its simple approach, I found it easier to focus on my goals and have them manifest one by one. From getting into my dream school, to getting jobs, and even getting the exact same car that I’d once glued a picture of on my very first vision board less than 1 year later. When I recognized how powerful my thoughts really are, it set me on a journey to exploring more about where some of my negative thought patterns come from, especially if they kept me from having the life that I always dreamed of.

2. You Can Heal Your Life: Another book that I’ve bought several copies of for friends and family in both print and audio versions. This book introduced me to the concept of having self-compassion (not sure if that’s a word) and empathy. It basically picks up where The Secret leaves off since it offers solutions for improving the quality of one’s thoughts, especially as it pertains to self-image. After all, we teach others how to treat us by how we treat ourselves. We also attract people and things into our lives based on what we think we deserve. Paying attention to self-talk is the best way to assess what you really feel about yourself. It also helps in getting to the root cause of those negative thoughts and forgiving yourself and others so that you can truly heal your life. This book offers positive affirmations for reprogramming a negative mindset and touches on metaphysics and the effects your thoughts can have on your body’s health. Two words: Great stuff!

3. Think & Grow Rich: The title of the book is self-explanatory. But I will admit that brother Napoleon Hill had me second guessing everything I thought I knew about education and the role that it would play in my life. In fact, I wanted to drop out of school before I could even finish the book, but Sallie Mae already had my name on a few documents so I had to finish. This book is an earlier version of The Secret and You Can Heal Your Life, but it offers more strategies with a business approach. Most entrepreneurs tend to appreciate a book like this. In fact, many well-known businessmen have credited this book with being the reason why they became so successful. It’s definitely left a permanent impression on me.

4. Getting To I Do: This book isn’t quite what its title suggests, but it does offer up some tips for both men and women to incorporate into their single, dating, and married lives. It is a MUST READ for those who feel a bit insecure in how to date or interact with the opposite sex (including with parents, friends, etc.) in a way that is healthy and beneficial for both people. I  would say that it is heavy in psychology based principles of how men and women (masculine and feminine regardless of physical sex) interact with one another, and how we could interact with much more harmony if we understood our own individual nature. Based on this book alone, I have a completely different outlook on relationships and interacting with the opposite sex. In fact, I plan to do some relationship videos laced with some of the principles I’ve learned from this book to help others put things in perspective. And yes, all of my close girlfriends were gifted or recommended a copy of this book. It’s a GAME CHANGER!

5. The Alchemist: The dreamer and believer in me absolutely loves this book! It’s a novel about a shepherd boy who goes on a journey to discovering his “personal legend,” which is the equivalent of his life’s purpose. It’s laced with jewels of timeless wisdom on just about every page. And it will definitely have you inspired to take of advantage of your time on Earth and pursue your hearts desires while you have the chance to. It’s one of those books that you feel the need to read every few years just to see how much progress you’ve made towards what you say you hope to accomplish in life. Let’s just say it keeps me on my toes and gets me right back on track when life’s circumstances can be distracting.

6. A Return To Love: This book is nothing short of miraculous. When you read it, you can feel love pouring all over you in the form of understanding, forgiveness, compassion, empathy, and just pure love. Marianne Williamson offers insight into life-lessons she’s learned based off A Course In Miracles, which is a Universal approach to Christian based principles. After reading this book, I felt so connected to everyone on the deepest levels of understanding. Not so much on the shallow tip, but you walk away with the understanding that we are more alike beneath the surface than we are different.

7. A Course In Miracles: As mentioned above, this is literally a life course. It’s like a companion to the Bible or whatever sacred book your faith is based on. Its pretty dense, but I promise everytime I read a page or practice a lesson, I become more open to life and I feel more grounded and loved than ever before. Let’s just say you’ll have to see for yourself.

8. The Four Agreements: Talk about getting to the root of almost all of the problems we face as human beings. This books offers four foundational principles that we should strive to live by, not for religion’s sake, but for our own sanity. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, it touches on limiting beliefs and how we can just about rid ourselves of unnecessary suffering and lead our lives with more love, abundance, and happiness.

9. Blink: This book touches on the power of intuition, or thinking without thinking. Everyday we make decisions, and some are made instinctively, while others are made after thorough investigation. Many times, the best choices are made with little to no explanation, all because something within allows us to make snap judgements that need no justification. Love it!

10. Science Of Mind: I’m currently reading this one and it’s like another companion to whatever your faith is already. It’s metaphysics at its finest and it really focuses on developing discipline to creating a more harmonious world through our individual thoughts. Its philosophy is based on Christian teachings, but it also draws from virtually every spiritual faith as it teaches readers to guide our thoughts intentionally towards a life of health, wealth, success, love, harmony, and peace. Another feel good read every time you pick it up. It’s enlightening and refreshing, and it gives you a sense of peace and personal power.

11. Enchanted Love: The Mystical Power of Intimate Relationships: Marianne Williamson did it again with this one! For me, this one is so necessary for this generation as we have drifted further away from intimacy in our interactions with those in our lives. It’s a collection of personal essays, prayers, and self-reflection of interactions within relationships. It will have you open to acceptance and being accepted, forgiveness, love, intimacy, and attracting the right mate from the right space. It is ever enchanted and another must read.

There’s many more that I’d love to share with you. There’s also so many that I have yet to read. I want to know what books changed the game for you. Please leave a comment if you’ve read any of these books, and share some of your favorite reads below.

Words of Wisdom: Being Misunderstood by 50 Cent

“Theres gonna be points where people are gonna mistake my confidence for arrogance because they don’t understand the process I went through and how much I had to believe in myself in order to make these things happen. I feel like you can will yourself into a good space. Things that are meant to happen, will. As you believe in yourself enough, you can help yourself learn. You can inspire yourself in different ways… where you can actually discipline yourself to the point that you can become good enough.”

Beauty Inspiration: Queen SNOB @IAmMingLee Is Living Her Dream (Documentary)

Ming Lee, Celebrity Hairstylist and Founder of IAmMingLee.com (Queen SNOB)
Ming Lee, Celebrity Hairstylist and Founder of IAmMingLee.com (Queen SNOB)

I am beyond a sucker for inspirational stories about those who have the audacity to go after their dreams. So when I was able to finally watch #DreamChaser Ming a.k.a. @IAmMingLee’s documentary about how she turned her dreams into a reality, I was totally inspired to share it here with you.  If you don’t know who Ming Lee is, not to be confused with the beautiful pre-teen daughter of Russell Simmons, here’s a few stats on her. She’s a 27-year old celebrity hairstylist based out of Atlanta, Georgia, by way of Detroit, who coined the term “SNOB Life” (for those who keep up on Instagram), and she’s making quite a name for herself.

snob life

I first took notice of her work while surfing YouTube a while ago and seeing some of her many hair tutorials and before and after shots of her own clients. To say the least, I was impressed. So much so that I clicked away at multiple links that lead to her website IamMingLee.com . The site offers a look into her world as a beauty expert, as well as her own online hair and apparel boutique, which she meticulously branded her namesake. It’s also the place where I discovered the term “SNOB” and everything that it stands for according to Ming and her social media followers. The term was born out of a long-held desire of Ming to one day be successful enough to live a lifestyle of the elite. And so it is.

I am building my empire for all women with the means to inspire all to be the Queen of their dreams and remembering to bring others up with you and to spread your blessings. – Celebrity Hairstylist Ming Lee

Now owner of her newly opened beauty oasis, Snob Life Studios in Atlanta, among other “SNOB-inspired” products, Ming is quickly growing her empire and creating a buzz while doing it. And she doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. She even created what’s know as the “snob stare” (a.k.a the stank face) in the social media sphere, which had her followers stare-off frenzy. (Peep the stare below)

I’ve followed Ming on Instagram for about a year now and I have gained the utmost respect for her story, her ambition and life philosophy, and her #DreamMaking and #DreamTaking pursuit to building her empire. Bravo Ming!! Totally looking forward to crossing paths with this self-made #BossLady. Until then, check out her self-told documentary It Was All A Dream (below), in which she offers highlights of her journey and encourage others to follow their dreams. Words of Wisdom: How M.E. Sees It

“I AM ENOUGH AND I AM NOT MY HISTORY. I BELIEVE THAT LOVE IS THE ONLY NUTRIENT IN THE WORLD THAT CAN BE EXPRESSED, AND I VOW TO TRY MY BEST TO PRACTICE ITS EXPRESSION IN EVERYTHING I DO AND WITH EVERYONE I KNOW. I AM NEVER WITHOUT RESOURCES. I AM A CHILD OF THE HALF LIGHT. I AM CONNECTED TO THE WHOLE. I AM A CREATIVE FORCE, I RECALL THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM THAT IS MY DESIGN IN WHICH I LIVE MY LIFE BY. I AM A MAGNET. I KNOW NOTHING, BUT I HAVE THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE TRUTH- THATS HOW I SEE YOU, EVEN WITH MY EYES CLOSED.” – Melody Ehsani

Fashion Inspiration: @MelodyEhsani Gives Me LIFE!!

I’ve made these past few weeks all about getting back to what makes me happy. And quite frankly, its the little things. From spending time with my family, to buying myself something nice here and there. But nothing makes me happier than a dose of inspiration from creative minds, especially fashionably DOPE ONES!

Melody Ehsani is a designer (worn by the likes of Rhianna, Cassie, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys and more…) that I have followed for the past several years, and I am continuously impressed by the depth of creativity and connectedness that she continues to exude. I love everything about her journey and how she chooses NOT to identify herself as the story that she has lived.

Most recently I found her profile on Instagram, after not having kept up with her latest designs and projects for a while, and I was blown away yet again. I was prompted to visit her oh-so cool blog/Tumblr that inspired me once before because she uses it as a tool to be just as creatively expressive as she does in her work. Intelligent, wise well beyond her years, edgy… The woman is AWESOME. I hope to meet her one day and perhaps have her as part of my life’s power circle of kindred spirits and friends.

But until then, check out part of why M.E. leaves me feeling BEYOND inspired… This is the Melody Ehsani blueprint:

“I think one of the most important things is authenticity and following what I call your DIVINE blueprint. You know, there’s no one else that’s going to be Melody Ehsani, it’s just me. And I’m not worried about competition or anything like that because I KNOW that this cannot be copied or duplicated because this is WHO I AM.”

Check me out rocking my M.E. “Queen of the Jungle” necklace… feeling something like a Queen of the Jungle. Hehehee! 😉

Brittnay’s Corner: Oprah’s Life Class Season Premier (Twitter Edition)

PAIN = Pay Attention Inward Now. Don’t look for anything or anyone outside of you to fix it – Iyanla Vanzant

Tonight was the season premier of Oprah’s Life Class on OWN, and it was AMAZING!!!!  In case you missed it, you can visit Oprah.com to watch the live stream (which may not be available until tomorrow, after it has aired worldwide). The subject for tonight’s class was “Are you living in pain?” and let’s just say that it was a life lesson that can help us all heal. Tonight’s teacher was life coach, spiritual teacher, and author Iyanla Vanzant, whom I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

The people and the stories were phenomenal! I was under the impression that one of my favorite bloggers Mastin Kipp, founder of TheDailyLove.com, would be on the show as well… so I tweeted it in excitement.

Well, Mastin replied by tweeting me that he would only be blogging live from the show, and I was just beyond thrilled that he saw my tweet.

I tweeted so much out of my excitement for the world to embrace the change that is needed in humanity, that I caught the attention of @OWNtv, and they replied to me as well.

I must have been in tune with my spirit, and their intentions as well, for two of my inspirations for inspiring others to see my tweets amongst hundreds of thousands of others, and reply to me tonight. It was UBER COOL!

I also felt the outpour of others who were living a life of pain, and so I tweeted my little heart out tonight… My prayer is that I helped those who don’t know their own strength, through sharing what I now know for sure… The Kingdom of heaven is WITHIN! (Check ya Bible for that one!) 🙂

#AMEN
